Icoms are notorious for this because the normal mic element is a electret (condenser).

A Heil  PR40  will require a pre-amp inline. I use this for a Heil HM10 dynamic.

It has 5 bands of EQ and ample mic gain adjustments, plug and play. The front 1/8 inch phone jack is for either a electret element or a

dynamic mic with a inline DC blocking cap. I have found that with this box that no compression is needed.

Icom 7300 Fldigi Setup

Icom 7300 Fldigi Setup

With all of the software programs I've been using one of my main objectives is to keep the settings on the radio the same. In the first part of this clip those settings are shown. So whether I'm using N1MM, N3FJP, MMTTY or Fldigi, the rig settings stay the same.

There are different ways of doing this, but using this setup I've been very happy. I am using two cables, one for rig control (CI-V) and one for data and serial comm port keying (USB). I am also using a USB hub so I only have one cable running into my laptop, but this USB hub may be causing intermittent problems. Not while I am operating thankfully. Just be aware of possible issues using a USB hub.

How to configure JT65 on Icom 7300

Until the various JT-65 software out there gets an update for the new Icom 7300, we have to cheat to get it to work. Here I show you how I got my system working easily, using only one USB cable to the radio.

Installing & Setting up Remote Control for your IC-7300 SDR Radio

Our friends at the TX Factor have produced a video that logically goes through the step by set process of remote controlling an Icom Amateur radio, more specifically in this case, the IC-7300 using the RS-BA1 remote control software.

Faith Hannah (AE4FH) went on a DX Adventure to the island of Saba in the Caribbean in August 2016 and she lost her voice after calling CQ for hours on end. In this video, she shows how to use the voice recorder and playback function on the Icom IC-7300. Perhaps on her next DX trip, she might take along an IC-7300!

SWR Graph is a very useful feature when you change antennas - at least you know what to expect once you start transmitting. In this video I check how my ATU for random wire antennas tunes a new piece of wire I just put up today.

QRM Receive Comparison with IC7300 and TS430S

QRM Receive Comparison with IC7300 and TS430S

Worked the dx contest this weekend and thought it would be neat to see a comparison between these 2 transceivers. I have to say it's a toss up. The selectivity of the old Kenwood is nice and seems a bit easier to pull the stations out of the qrm with a slight tweak to the if shift. The 7300 sensitivity beats the KW as well as it's adjust-ability of the filtering. But, The hyper sensitive receive of the 7300 is too much of a good thing when signals are +20. See for yourself and you be the judge! ;-)
